Aloha and welcome to my web site. This is a place to browse in my imaginative world of art. My paintings are stories of people, relationships, animals, myths, dreams, and tropical islands, which are painted in the folk art tradition from the heart.
Humor and whimsical ideas play an important role in many of my paintings. I also take humor into mans' "darker" side.
The stories are influenced by societies and all forms of media as well as living on the tropical island of Maui.
My style is a mix of influences, they include: European, US and Caribbean folk art, cartoons, artists Herni Rousseau, Paul Gaugain and Modigliani.
The paintings are mostly done in acrylic. The flat style involves layering the paint and acrylic is ideal for this. Other pieces that have subtle blending and a looser approach are usually done in oil.
I love to tell a good story and the ones that use humor and whimsy definately have a place in the fine art world. When visiting the gallery pages, click on thumbnails to view enlargements, then scroll down for detailed information.
